For those living n the Midwest, Wisconsin ski resorts offer some of the best affordable family skiing in the area. Here is a small guide to some of the more popular ski resorts in Wisconsin. The Midwest is known for its flatlands. Because of this, many people are surprised to learn that Wisconsin ski resorts even exist. And while, its true, that you won't find mountains with the height or vertical drops of those in Park City, Utah or Aspen, Colorado, if you just want to get away for a short ski trip, there are plenty to choose from in the Wisconsin area. 1) Hidden Valley Inn and Ski ResortW7724 County Road This resort was recently voted by Outdoor Life as one of the top 200 places to live for sportsmen. It is a low key, inexpensive resort - away from the bustling crowds. Because of its beautiful scenery, Wisconsin is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the Midwest. This Wisconsin ski resort has all of the standard amenities you would expect - a ski shop, food services and dining area, and bar. You can also find excellent ski and snowboarding instructors as well as a rental area where you can rent skis and bindings. The various slopes have been rated for beginner, intermediate, and expert levels. Hidden valley is also a great place to visit if you love snowboarding and snowmobiling. 2) Alpine Valley Ski ResortW2501 County Road D Many people know alpine valley for its musical concerts. But, in the winter, it is known as one of the more popular ski resorts in Wisconsin. Its closeness to Illinois makes it a primary ski destination from many people in that neighboring state. If you apply for membership to the resort, you can get discounted rates on ski passes, room rates, and the like. The cutoff period for new membership is usually sometime in late September. Children 6 and under can take advantage of half price lift tickets and rental fees. If you plan on doing lots of skiing and snowboarding over the winter months, take advantage of their season passes. The majority of the trails at Alpine valley would be considered easy to intermediate. 3) Devils Head Ski ResortS6330 Bluff Road The Midwest is known for its flatlands which is why you won't find too many great mountains to ski in this area. But, in Wisconsin, Devils head does have some of the longer ski runs in the area. In addition, it is located conveniently for those living in nearby Milwaukee, Madison, and even Chicago (2 1/2 - 3 hours drive). Devils head is one of the best Midwest ski areas for intermediate skiers who love a variety of slopes. If you are an intermediate skier, you will probably spend the bulk of your time on their black diamond runs. Devil's Head is popular, so you will probably find it crowded over the weekends. If you are a first time skier, take advantage of their PSIA-certified Ski School which offers excellent ski training - even for youngsters in the 4 - 10 years old age group. In addition, for parents with children, they have recently added a child care center where you can leave your 3 to 10 year olds while you enjoy a day on the slopes. This resort, popular among those who actually live in Wisconsin, offers over thirty ski and snowboarding trails graded towards all proficiency levels - beginner to expert.
